The importance of social support and encouragement is that it provides motivation.
There is science behind the positives of working out in a community.
The scientific name is the Kohler effect (*).
In addition to the Kohler effect, there is the added benefit of increased levels of endorphins which occur in a group exercise setting.
We know from experience that exercising in groups is good for people at many levels, it's motivational, it's social

It has long been known that physical exertion releases endorphins which are responsible for the sometimes euphoric sensation experienced after exercising.
This endorphin release has a protective effect against pain.
Researchers from Oxford University’s Institute of Cognitive and Evolutionary Anthropology found that this response was heightened by the synergistic effect of exercising together, compared with a similar training regime carried out alone.
This heightened effect from synchronized activity may explain the sense of euphoria experienced during other social activities, such as laughter, music-making and dancing (**).
At Davie CrossFit we add a little more of this euphoric sensation. Chill, laugh, make music, read a book, play game, watch tv, recover from the WOD, drink a shake, and socialize in our Lounge Area with cozy lounge chairs and bean bags .
The sense of community, the social support and encouragement is what drives you to come to the box, gets you through the WOD, and makes you come back for more.
CrossFit for life!
